The University of Hawaii men's basketball team ran out of rally time in a 61-58 loss to UNLV last night.

A "White-Out" crowd of 3,411 at the Stan Sheriff Center saw the Rainbow Warriors drop to 4-4 with their first home loss of the season. The Runnin' Rebels improved to 6-2 with their second victory over UH this season.

The 'Bows trailed throughout the game, but managed to tie the score at 56 with 1:20 remaining.

But the Rebels' Wendell White hit a jump shot to give UNLV a 58-56 lead it would not relinquish.

White led UNLV with 20 points and 11 rebounds.

Matt Gibson, Dominic Waters and Bobby Nash each scored 11 points for the 'Bows.

The first half ended with UNLV ahead, 26-18, and it was an offensive struggle for both teams.

Hawaii hit just 6 of 18 shots and committed 12 turnovers in the first half. UNLV was not much better, hitting 10 of 32.

The 'Bows had a short-lived lead at 9-8 with 10:22 remaining in the half, but UNLV responded with a 16-5 run to take control.

Hawaii also got into foul trouble in the first half, with starting center Stephen Verwers and his back-up, P.J. Owsley, picking up three each.

UNLV increased its lead to 29-18 to open the second half, but the 'Bows responded with a 7-0 run to get back in it.

However, Hawaii had to play a significant stretch of the second half without starting guards Matt Lojeski and Gibson. Lojeski went to the bench after picking up his fourth foul with 15:10 remaining, and then Gibson joined him after being assessed his fourth with 14:00 remaining.

When they returned, UH rallied and eventually tied the score at 56 on a 3-pointer by Gibson.
