HAWAI'I BRIEFS
Pearlridge water main ruptures

Advertiser Staff

The Honolulu Board of Water Supply yesterday asked residents of the Pearlridge Estates area to conserve water after a 12-inch water main broke.

The break was reported at 3:30 p.m. in the area of 98-630 Ka'onohi St., water agency spokeswoman Su Shin said. Six townhouse complexes were among the customers affected, agency spokeswoman Wanda Yamane said.

The pipe break allowed some water to drain out of the reservoir that serves the area. In addition, the reservoir was not being replenished with new water.

The reservoir still had water last night, and officials were monitoring the water level, Shin said. But she said people needed to conserve water because the supply was limited.

It was not immediately known what caused the pipe to break. Crews were working through the night and it was hoped repairs would be completed before the morning rush hour, Yamane said.
