A 21-year-old Kalihi man was arrested yesterday morning after a police officer watched him walk up to a car parked on Pu'uhale Road, "punch" the driver's side door lock and enter the car.

Police said the officer approached the car and saw the man attempting to break open the ignition.

The officer then arrested the man, who lives a couple of blocks away, on suspicion of attempted unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle.

Boyfriend arrested in strangling incident

Police arrested a 22-year-old Pearl City man for allegedly choking his girlfriend Saturday.

The girlfriend told police she was arguing with the man about 6 a.m. when he began to strangle her. She called the police later to report the incident.

Police said charges of abuse of a family or household member are pending against the man.

Man arrested in shed burglary incident

A 38-year-old man with no local address was arrested in the Chinatown area yesterday after a witness reported seeing him break into a shed attached to the side of a restaurant about 5:20 a.m.

The witness provided a description of the man to police who went to the area and found a man matching the description, who was subsequently identified by witnesses.

The shed owner was then called to the scene and identified property in the man's possession as having been taken from the shed, police said.

The man who was being detained was then arrested on suspicion of second-degree burglary.
