UH students to push for rail system at public hearing

Advertiser Staff

The great debate over whether to install a rail transit system resumes today when three University of Hawai'i at Manoa student groups express support to the city for bringing a mass transit system to the campus.

The Associated Students of the University of Hawai'i (ASUH), the Sierra Club and 2020 Vision will express their support at the Honolulu City Council public hearing at the Honolu Hale at 11 a.m., urging the city to make sure a rail system would include a stop at the UH campus.

In a news release, the Sierra Club's Henry Cheng said mass transit can help the limited parking issue at UH-Manoa.

"Parking is scarce," Cheng said. "Fifty-five hundred parking spaces for almost 28,000 students, faculty and staff is not enough."
