Nearly three out of four Hawai'i residents believe tourism brings more benefits than problems, according to a survey commissioned by the Hawai'i Tourism Authority. The survey also found 44 percent of residents polled said tourism is mostly good for their families, up slightly from 42 percent in 2005 and halting what has been a declining trend since 1988.
Forty-six percent said tourism improves their overall quality of life, down from 50 percent in 2005 and 66 percent in 2002.
The report, entitled "2006 Survey of Resident Sentiments on Tourism in Hawaii," was conducted in September through early November and polled 1,609 residents statewide.
