U.S. Rep.-elect Hirono: 'We all stand united' in support

Advertiser Staff

U.S. Rep.-elect Mazie Hirono, D-Hawai'i, today released the following statement on the death of five Schofield Barracks soldiers in Iraq:

"I join our nation and our state in mourning the loss of five Hawai'i-based soldiers to the continuing violence in Iraq. My thoughts are with the families and loved ones of these fine young Americans, who volunteered to serve, honored us with their commitment, and made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country.

"Whatever our differences regarding our country's involvement in the region, we all stand united in supporting our men and women who have answered their nation's call to duty.

"On this day, as we observe the events 65 years ago that brought our country to war, let us also remind ourselves of the service and dedication of all of the brave Americans who have served in our armed forces."
