New Long Distance calling program to help fight hunger in Hawaii

Honolulu, HI (Dec. 8, 2006) – SetRate Prepaid Long Distance, with network services provided by Verizon, is proud to announce the new Call 4 America program that raises money for the nation's food banks. Owner and President, Steve Barrow said "I wanted to offer a product with the network backing that Verizon can offer, that saves the consumer money and more importantly supports a very worthy cause at the same time. Hunger is an enormous and growing problem in the United States that exists because the high cost of living, low wages and other reasons make it hard for many individuals and families to have enough money for food. One of my goals is to raise public awareness about the hunger problem, and to provide an easy way for everyone to help."

SetRate has partnered with 19 food banks, networks or associations in 24 states, including the Hawaii Foodbank, the only nonprofit 501(c)(3) agency in the state of Hawaii that collects, warehouses, and distributes both perishable and non-perishable food to 250 member agencies, plus food banks on the Big Island, Maui, and Kauai. Barrow expects to have at least 30 states onboard by the end of the year and to eventually have all 50 states represented to help reduce hunger nationwide. He hopes that people will contact their state's food bank system if they are not onboard yet.

The Call 4 America program is unique in that it creates a continuous source of funding for its' participating food banks and associations, not just a one-time donation. When someone signs up for a prepaid long distance plan, SetRate will donate 10% of every activation and recharge to the participating food bank system where they live. According to Barrow, this is actually over 50% of the gross revenue, after taxes and other expenses. He assures that 100% of every donation will stay in the state of sign-up; for sign-ups in non-participating states, the donations will be split among those that are participating.

"I am very grateful to Verizon for allowing me to offer one of the best rates in the county for the Call 4 America program – 2.89 cents per minute to all 50 states and U.S. territories. Other companies may offer what appears to be a better rate, but after all the added fees and charges, it is actually much higher," said Barrow. "With SetRate, there are no additional fees or charges, other that an FCC mandated surcharge when using a payphone and a state sales tax where applicable, and the unused minutes never expire. Prepaid is becoming more popular as people realize how much money they can save. You purchase your minutes in advance, and when those are gone, you purchase more."

SetRate has three plans to choose from with very competitive rates to over 200 countries and from over 150 international locations, and can be used from any touchtone phone. It is easy to use with automatic recharge, speed dialing and PIN-less dialing. Verizon Prepaid provides 24/7 bilingual customer service.
