Wind gusts cause minor damage

Advertiser Staff

Gusty winds this afternoon damaged three roofs, brought down two trees on Likelike Highway and downed a utility line in Manoa.

Firefighters said three homes — two in Manoa and one in Kalihi — sustained minor roof damage this afternoon. No one was injured.

Also, crews are still working to repair a downed utility line at O'ahu and Lowrey avenues. It's unclear how long the repairs will take.

On Likelike Highway, two trees fell across the town-bound lanes near the Wilson Tunnel about 3 p.m. No injuries were reported. Honolulu-bound traffic is being diverted to the H-3 Freeway.

Meanwhile, the National Weather Service issued a wind advisory this afternoon for the South Kohala district of the Big Island.

Forecasters said winds at 30 mph, with occasional gusts at 50 mph, are expected through 6 a.m. tomorrow. On O'ahu, winds are at between 20 and 25 mph, with occasional higher gusts.
