Carl Takamura, the executive director of the Hawai'i Business Roundtable, has been named the new chief of staff for Rep.-elect Mazie Hirono, (D-Hawai'i).

Takamura, who has served as head of the business organization for 16 years, told leaders of the organization yesterday that he has accepted an offer for the job and will begin work in Washington, D.C. sometime after Jan. 4.

The appointment was confirmed by Hirono's staff today. Hirono defeated several other candidates in November to claim the seat being vacated by Rep. Ed Case.

The Hawai'i Business Roundtable is comprised of the chief executives of 50 major companies in Hawai'i, which collectively employs more than 67,000 workers.
