Russia's Denisova wins women's competition

Russia's Lyubov Denisova, 35, making her Honolulu Marathon debut, won the women's event today, helping continue the streak of recent Russian dominance.

Denisova's official time was 2 hours, 27 minutes and 19 seconds.

It was the third year in a row and the sixth time in the past seven years that a Russian runner has won the Honolulu Marathon.

Russian runners also took second and fourth place today.

Alevtina Biktimirova, 24, also making her race debut, finished in 2:29:42. Defending champion Olesya Nurgaliev, 30, finished fourth in 2:36:02.

Japan's Eri Hayakawa, the 2003 Honolulu Marathon winner, captured third in 2:32:31.
