Kenya saw its streak of consecutive Honolulu Marathon men's victories end today.

Ethiopia's Ambesse Tolossa, 29, running in his first Honolulu Marathon, won the event in an unofficial time of 2 hours, 13 minutes and 41 seconds.

Runners from Kenya had won the past 10 Honolulu Marathons, with Jimmy Muindi capturing the past three. Muindi, 33, finished second today in an unofficial time of 2 hours, 14 minutes and 48 seconds.

The last non-Kenyan runner to win the Honolulu Marathon was Josia Thugwane of South Africa in 1995.

Past Kenyan winners were Muindi (2005, 2004, 2003, 2000, 1999), Mbarak Hussein (2001, 2002, 1998) and Erick Chimayo (1997, 1996).

The last runner from the United States to win the Honolulu Marathon was David Gordon of Washington in 1982. The last runner from Hawai'i to win was Duncan Macdonald in 1980.
