Shark victim encouraged by Isles' Hamilton

Advertiser Staff

Bethany Hamilton, who returned to the surf just weeks after a shark took her arm, is urging South Australian victim Zac Golebiowski to get back on his board.

Hamilton, who was attacked by a tiger shark three years ago while surfing off Kaua'i, told the Melbourne Herald Sun she was "gutted" when she heard about Golebiowski, 15.

The boy lost his leg when he was attacked by a 16-foot white pointer shark while surfing off a remote West Australian beach Dec.2.

Hamilton said she wants to visit him when she travels to Australia next month.

Hamilton was 13 when she lost her arm to a 15-foot tiger shark in 2003.

She told the newspaper she hoped Golebiowski would continue to surf.

"An important thing for Zac to focus on during his recovery is getting back in the water," she said.
