Moloka'i motorcyclist dies after crash

MOLOKA'I — A 62-year-old Moloka'i man injured in a motorcycle crash on Mo'omomi Avenue near Mokulele Street in Ho'olehua died yesterday at The Queen's Medical Center.

Sgt. Michael Bates said the crash was reported about 10 a.m. No other injuries were reported. The cause of the crash is under investigation and the identity of the man was being withheld until notification of next of kin, said Bates.

Pending autopsy findings, the death is tentatively considered Moloka'i's second traffic fatality of the year and the 18th for Maui County, four of which have involved motorcyclist.

A total of 151 people have died on Hawai'i's roadways in 2006, including 88 on O'ahu, 32 on the Big Island and 13 on Kaua'i.
