Barricade incident ends peacefully

Advertiser Staff

A 40-year-old man barricaded himself inside the Kapolei police station this morning for nearly three hours after he walked in with a knife and slit his wrists.

The incident began at 8:40 a.m.

After the man entered the main lobby and cut his wrists, he began threatening police and others in the station. Police evacuated the area, and the man worked his way into a hallway and barricaded himself between a vending machine and a concrete wall, police said.

Members of the department's specialized service's division and crisis negotiation team were called in. By about 11:30 a.m., the man had become weak from blood loss and police were able to disarm him.

The man was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in stable condition and will be subjected to a psychological examination, police said.

The man's wounds were non-life threatening, according to the city office of emergency services.
