Library events scheduled for January

Advertiser Staff

Mililani Public Library is scheduled to host Mililani author Vera Arita in a special pre-school story time on Jan. 9 at 10:30 a.m. in the children's section.

Arita will read aloud from her book "All Around the Islands" during the free event. Based on the classic song "Over in the Meadow," this book teaches children how to count from one to 10 while learning more about the Hawaiian Islands. A simple craft session will follow the author's presentation.

This 30-minute program is suitable for children ages 3 and up with a parent or caregiver.

Call the library two weeks in advance if a sign language interpreter or other special accommodation is needed.

For more information, call the library at 627-7470.

The Hawaii State Library is scheduled to host "Photos to Fabric: An Image Transfer Workshop," a free program for adults on Jan. 20 at 3 p.m.

Carlene Ho, a quilting instructor at Ben Franklin Crafts, will demonstrate how to transform cherished family photos into family quilts.

Sponsored by the Friends of the Library of Hawaii, this one-hour workshop will be conducted in the Art, Music and Recreation Section, located on the second floor.

Call the library two weeks in advance if a sign language interpreter or other special accommodation is needed.

For more information, call the library's Art, Music and Recreation Section at 586-3520.

Pahala Public and School Library on the Big Island will host two program series beginning in January 2007: "Family Movie Nite" and pre-school story time in the children's area.

Admission to the events is free.

"Family Movie Nite" will be held on the fourth Monday of the month from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., beginning on Jan. 22. The exception to this will be in March and May 2007 when state holiday observances move this program up to the third Monday of these months.

This program is suitable for all ages. Parents are recommended to attend with children. Call the library to find out the name of the movie.

Pre-school story time is scheduled for every second and fourth Thursday of the month from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m., beginning Jan. 11 and 25.

The pre–school story time may consist of stories read aloud, finger plays, sing–along songs and a craft activity. This program is suitable for children ages 21⁄2 and up, accompanied by a parent or caregiver.

For more information, call Pahala Public and School Library at (808) 928–2015.
