Fire at Marine base under investigation

Advertiser Staff

Federal firefighters and the Honolulu Fire Department responded to an 11:08 a.m. fire today in a housing complex at Marine Corps Base Hawai'i at Kane'ohe Bay.

No one was in the unit at the time and there were no injuries.

Within 10 minutes of the fire department's arrival, the fire was under control, the base said. Firewalls between units prevented the fires from spreading to the adjoining units.

Emergency services and the military police department received the initial call at 11:08 a.m. and responded within minutes, officials said. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

No damage estimate was reported. It is standard procedure for the Federal Fire Department to request mutual aid from the Honolulu Fire Department.
