Mililani elementary students treated for noxious odors

Advertiser Staff

Six students at Mililani Mauka Elementary have been taken to Wahiawa General Hospital this morning after reports of noxious odors.

Five boys and one girl, ranging in age from 10 to 11, complained of eye, ear, nose and throat irritation, said Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city's Emergency Medical Services department.

One of the boys vomitted, Cheplic said.

The problem began around 9:13 a.m., according to Honolulu fire officials.

Reports of a pesticide-like smell initially centered around a bathroom located between the school's portable classrooms and main buildings, Honolulu fire officials said. But firefighters could find no source of the odor on school property, said HFD Capt. Kenison Tejada.

Firefighters are now looking for a possible source around the townhomes in back of the school, Tejada said.

No one was evacuated.
