The history of today
DECEMBER 13 |

|
1941: Rent control is put into effect on O'ahu. The Army says 500 men are urgently needed to work on defense projects. The Army also asks that any shell fragments from the Dec. 7 attack be turned over to police immediately.
1955: A swept-wing Comet III is the first commercial jet to land at Honolulu Airport. The British transport was on an around-the-world test flight. The longest run on its trip, The Advertiser said, was its flight from Fiji to Hawai'i.
1963: Bishop Estate announces that real estate dealers will be told that discriminatory housing practices in Kahala will not be tolerated. The announcement was made in conjunction with the estate’s plan to extend homesite leases to 99 years. It also followed reports that homes there were not sold to non-Caucasians.
1967: Opera star David Poleri and his wife are killed in a helicopter crash on Kaua'i.
1999: Ousted Bishop Estate trustee Henry Peters submits a letter of permanent resignation to the charitable trust.
