Hawaiian Holdings up 12% amid merger talk

Shares of Hawaiian Holdings Inc., the parent company of Hawaiian Airlines, have risen more than 12 percent in the past week as a round of merger talk and consolidation occurs in the airline industry.

The shares traded at $5.25 at 10:30 a.m. Hawai'i time today compared to the stock's close at $4.63 cents a share last Thursday.

There's been news this week of UAL Corp. and Continental Airlines Inc. are in merger talks comes as other airlines look to buy others or merger. In recent weeks US Airways Group Inc. has made a hostile bid for Delta Airlines Inc. AirTran Holdings Inc. also made a hostile takeover bid for Midwest Air Group Inc.
