Costco Wholesale Corp., which operates its membership club stores on each of Hawai'i's major islands, reported its fiscal first-quarter profit climbed to $236.9 million from $215.8 million a year earlier.

Revenue rose 9.4 percent to $14.2 billion in the three months ended Nov. 26. Costco operates more than 470 of its warehouse-like stores in the U.S. and overseas.

The largest U.S. membership club chain reported flat-screen televisions, computers, toys and fresh foods were among the strongest categories in the quarter and that sales at U.S. stores open more than a year gained 3 percent.
