Elderly man injured in street crossing

A man in his 80s was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition this morning after he was hit by a vehicle while crossing Captain Cook Street near Alapai Street.

He was transported at 10:42 a.m., according to the city office of Emergency Services.

Gas leak prompts evacuation of Mililani town homes

Honolulu firefighters evacuated 20 units of a Mililani town home complex this morning after a construction crew working on Kipapa Drive ruptured a gas line.

Workers punctured a one inch hole in the line and HFD decided to evacuate the area and create a safe zone at about 8 a.m.

Workers with the gas company were able to repair the line by 9:30 a.m. and people were allowed back in their homes.

No injuries were reported, said HFD Capt. Frank Johnson.

Couple arrested in alleged TV switch incident

Two people were arrested yesterday after they allegedly attempted to scam an electronics store out of a television.

A 45-year-old man and a 45-year-old woman walked into an electronics store on Keeaumoku Street and bought a 20-inch television. Some time later, police said the pair walked back into the store with a TV that resembled the one they bought and attempted to return it. Store employees recognized differences in the TVs and called police. The pair was arrested on suspicion of second-degree theft.

Man arrested in brick threat incident

A 23-year-old man was arrested yesterday after he threatened another man with a brick and smashed his car with it.

At 11:30 a.m. yesterday in Salt Lake, the 23 year-old got into an argument with a 26 year-old and threatened him with a brick. The younger man then threw the brick at the other man's car, causing damage, police said. Responding officers arrested the 23-year-old man on suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening and second degree criminal property damage.

Man arrested in tie to car and bank card theft, drug offenses

A 24-year-old Honolulu man was arrested yesterday after he allegedly stole a car and a bank card, police said.

At 11:35 p.m. last night security officers at an apartment complex at 1561 Kanunu Street saw a suspicious car in the lot and called police. Responding officers checked the car's license plates and realized the car was stolen, police said.

Officers approached the car and found the man sitting in it with a bag of what appeared to be crystal methamphetamine, police said. During a search of the man's wallet, an officer found a bank card belonging to a 36-year-old woman.

The man was arrested on suspicion of car theft, unauthorized possession of personal confidential information, promoting dangerous drugs in the third degree, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
