Kahala, Kane'ohe Star Markets to close in February

Advertiser Staff

Star Markets Ltd. said today it will close its Kane'ohe and Kahala Mall locations next year and sell its leasehold interest, the Kane'ohe space, to national drug store chain Walgreens.

Karl Wissmann, president and chief executive of the 77-year-old local grocery store chain, also said the company next year will launch a remodeling program at other state locations.

The Star store in Kane'ohe will close by the end of February, the company said. Star will not renew its lease at the Kahala Mall location when it expires in February. Star has been working with Kahala Mall management for the past several years on a lease renewal, but no agreement could be reached, the company said.
