High wind advisory issued for all islands

Advertiser Staff

The National Weather Service this morning issued a high-wind advisory for all islands.

The advisory means that strong winds of 30 mph, with frequent gusts above 50 mph, are expected.

A strong, high pressure area passing north of the state will generate strong and gusty trade winds across the state today, forecasters said.

High winds are expected to be most prominent across ridges, headlands, leeward valleys and areas prone to funneling.

The Weather Service is advising people to secure outside objects including trash cans and holiday decorations.Winds that strong can make driving difficult, especially for high or light weight vehicles, the drivers of which are advised to use extra caution.

The advisory will remain in effect until 6 this evening.
