Overloaded washing machine causes Waikiki stir
Advertiser Staff
Firefighters from the Waikiki firehouse were sent to the Marine Surf Hotel on Seaside Avenue at about 12:45 this morning after receiving reports that smoke and the smell of something burning were observed on one of the hotel's lower floors.
The problem turned out to be a washing machine that was overloaded to the point that its electric motor was overwhelmed, froze and began to smolder.
The fire crew took care of the problem in a matter of minutes. There were no injuries.
