Two men were taken to the hospital, one in critical condition, after an all-terrain vehicle struck a pedestrian on Farrington Highway near Ka'ena Point State Park early this morning.

According to the HPD Traffic Division's Vehicular Homicide Section, at about 12:15 a.m., a southbound red-and-white 2006 Yamaha ATV driven by a 34-year-old Wai'anae area man struck a 22-year-old man, also from the Wai'anae area, approximately one-quarter mile south of Makua Valley Road.

The pedestrian was walking in the southbound lanes when he was hit, they said.

The 22-year-old man was transported to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition, with multiple injuries to his lower body.

The ATV driver, who was wearing a helmet, was ejected from the vehicle and taken to Queen's in stable condition, police said.

It was not known if speed, drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident, which occurred in a remote area under clear skies and in an unlighted section of roadway, police said.
