Fallen tree causes power failure in Hilo

Advertiser Staff

About 2,800 Hilo customers lost power at about 2:58 p.m. when a tree fell onto electrical distribution lines.

By 3:30 p.m., power was restored to all but about eight customers.

Customers still without power at about 8 p.m. included the University of Hawai'i at Hilo and Waiakea High School.

Hawaiian Electric Light Company officials said electricity probably would be restored to the remaining customers tonight.
