Winds should slow today for O'ahu, Kaua'i

Advertiser Staff

The gusty trade winds that ruffled Kaua'i and O'ahu yesterday have moved on to Maui and the Big Island.

The islands toward the eastern half of the state will likely see gusts today of up to 50 mph, especially at higher elevations, according to the National Weather Service.

The high pressure system causing the breezy weather remains north of the state and has not yet cleared it.

Rain showers today will favor windward and mauka areas but may blow over into leeward areas at times.

The winds should ease back down to more moderate levels tonight and tomorrow, forecasters said.

Here's a more detailed look at the weather today and tomorrow:

Today, mostly sunny. Breezy. Highs 75 to 82. East winds 15 to 25 mph.

Tonight, partly cloudy with isolated showers. Lows 60 to 70. East winds 15 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 20 percent.

Tomorrow, mostly sunny. Isolated showers in the afternoon. Highs 77 to 82. East winds 10 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 20 percent.

Tomorrow night, mostly cloudy with scattered showers. Lows 63 to 71. East winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 30 percent.
