LaTech set to name new football coach

RUSTON – Louisiana Tech President Dr. Dan Reneau announced Sunday that following an interview with the Tech Athletics Council on Monday, Miami Dolphins assistant football coach Derek Dooley is expected to be named the Bulldogs next head football coach.

A press conference will be held in the Hall of Fame Room located in the Thomas Assembly Center on the Tech campus followed by a reception in the Waggonner Room.

Louisiana Tech Jack Bicknell after eight seasons and a 3-10 record this past season.

Louisiana Tech lost to fellow Western Athletic Conference member Hawaii 61-10 in November.

Dooley, who played football at Virginia and earned a law degree at Georgia, has worked the past seven years for Nick Saban, including five at LSU and the past two for the Dolphins.

During his stint at LSU, Dooley served as the Tigers running backs and was the special team's coordinator in 2003 during the Tigers national championship season. He also spent three seasons as the Tigers recruiting coordinator.

Dooley, who will be the 31st head coach in Louisiana Tech football history, is the son of former Georgia head football coach and athletic director Vince Dooley.

Dooley was in Buffalo Sunday with the Dolphins for their game against the Bills.
