Advertiser Staff

Kimberly Kim, 15, a former Big Island resident, has been granted a sponsor's exemption to play in the LPGA's SBS Open at Turtle Bay, tournament officials announced.

Kim, who currently resides in Arizona, became the youngest to win the 2006 U.S. Women's Amateur title while a 14-year-old. She also finished second in the 2006 U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship.

She will be playing for the first time in an LPGA event. The field of more than 130 women players include such stars as Player of the Year Lorena Ochoa, defending champion Joo Mi Kim and Japan star Ai Miyazato.

The SBS Open, which offers a $1.1 million total purse and $165,000 first prize, will be played Feb. 15-17 at the Arnold Palmer-designed par-72 course.
