Louisiana Tech hires Dooley as new football coach

Advertiser Staff

Louisiana Tech today announced the hiring of Derek Dooley as its 31st head football coach.

Dooley, who played football at Virginia and earned a law degree at Georgia, has worked the past seven years for Nick Saban, including five at LSU and the past two for the Miami Dolphins.

During his stint at LSU, Dooley served as the Tigers' running backs coach and was the special team's coordinator in 2003 during the Tigers national championship season.

He also spent three seasons as the Tigers recruiting coordinator. Dooley is the son of former Georgia head football coach and athletic director Vince Dooley.

He replaces Jack Bicknell, who was released following the team's final regular season game.

Hawaii, a fellow Western Athletic Conference member, beat Louisiana Tech, 61-10, on Nov. 11.
