ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Little thought avoids lot of waste

Advertiser Staff and News Services

The holidays are jolly but they can produce a lot of waste. Reduce yours with these tips from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency:

  • Bring reusable cloth bags for holiday gift shopping. Tell store clerks you don't need a bag for small or oversized purchases.

  • Send recycled-content greeting cards. Remember to recycle any paper cards you receive.

  • Turn off holiday lights during the day.

    KEEP IT SIMPLE

    RUNNING WITH RIBBONS

In need of low-cost decorating ideas for the holidays? CraftPlace.org offers these creative ideas for ribbons:

  • Make simple bows from printed, colorful ribbon and pin them to your curtains or tie them around door knobs.

  • String a ribbon from one end of a wall to another, attaching each end with a thumbtack. Use the ribbon like a clothesline, and display greeting cards by attaching them with clothes pins.

    FINAL WORD
