Territorial courts were closed once martial law was declared after the attack on Pearl Harbor. The court reopened on Dec. 18, 1941, with some limitations.

1926: The new extension of the Maui belt road, from Ke'anae to Hana, opens.

1952: The children in the sixth grade at Pauoa School get a personal note from President-elect Dwight D. Eisenhower thanking them for the lei the children had sent him while he was on his Hawai'i stopover a few days earlier.
