  • Last December, the retail sales of the nation's department stores reached $31.7 billion, a 47 percent jump from the previous month.

  • U.S. Christmas tree farmers sold $485 million worth of trees in 2005. Oregon was the tree king at $126 million, followed by North Carolina and Washington.

  • China was the leading country of origin for Christmas tree ornaments last year.
