Moanalua athlete now picks Cal over Oregon

Advertiser Staff

Moanalua High senior tight end Savai'i Eselu said he has changed his mind and will accept a football scholarship to California.

Earlier, he had verbally committed to Oregon.

Eselu, who is 6 feet 4 and 248 pounds, said California coaches convinced him that the school had more education opportunities to offer than Oregon and that he had a chance to start as a true freshman. He added that when he informed Oregon of his decision, Oregon coach Mike Bellotti told him that he would still continue to recruit him back.
