Korean paper: Wie agrees to be honorary ambassador

Advertiser Staff

The Korea Times reported today that Michelle Wie has agreed to be an honorary ambassador to help the South Korean city of PyeongChang land the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Wie's parents are South Koreans, the report said, and the 17-year-old golfer accepted the offer on Tuesday at the Champions Gate Golf Club in Orlando, Fla., when Han Seung-soo, chairman of the Bid Committee, visited her.

"I'm proud of my Korean heritage and also a big fan of winter sports,'' Wie was quoted as saying following the meeting.

The newspaper also said that according to the committee, Wie will not receive financial compensation for her role. She will accompany PyeongChang officials at several international meetings.
