The Dec. 21, 1947, Advertiser reported on plans for Honolulu Zoo.

1934: The park board meets with Mayor Wright and puts development of Ala Moana road into a beautiful boulevard, 100 feet wide, extending from the docks to Kalakaua Avenue near Ft. DeRussy at the top of its tentative program.

1947: The new senior high school on the University of Hawai'i campus will be ready for the fall term, The Advertiser reports.

1952: Fire destroys Flowers of Hawaii Ltd. at Kea'au on the Big Island, one of the territory's largest Mainland shippers.

1975: United Airlines mechanics end their two-week strike.

1989: The state has obtained out-of-court settlements totalling about $9 million from two of the companies involved in the massive litigation over alleged defects in the materials, design and construction of Aloha Stadium, The Advertiser reports.
