Council weighs transit land development issue

Advertiser Staff

The City Council meeting started with discussion about a development issue that is related to transit, but not the main vote on route or mode.

Mayor Mufi Hannemann had vetoed a bill approved by the Council earlier to establish certain requirements for developing transit stations along a proposed vote.

Today, a majority of the Council members voted to override that veto, saying that some kind of development controls were needed.

Those voting to override were: Council Chairman Donovan Dela Cruz and members Ann Kobayashi, Todd Apo, Charles Djou and Romy Cachola.

Those against were: Nestor Garcia, Gary Okino and Rod Tam.

As of 10:30 a.m., 120 people were signed up to testify on the main transit vote.

But it was clear from the start that this is not going to be a simple discussion. Kobayashi and Apo both proposed changes to the proposed route.
