Census to survey Hawaii spending habits
Advertiser StaffThe U.S. Census Bureau said it will be contacting select households beginning next month for a study on how much people spend on health care, groceries, clothing, transportation, housing and other items.
The prior survey of this kind in 2004-2005 found that Hawai'i households spent $4,231 per year on food at home, or 7.7 percent of their total expenditures. That compared with the national average of $3,322, or 7.4 percent of total expenditures.
Census Bureau will be sending letters to households it selects for participation in the surveys.
