No injunction in hula art lawsuit

Advertiser Staff

A federal judge has denied a preliminary injunction sought by artist Kim Taylor Reece against a Kailua art gallery that displays a stained glass piece of work Reece claims is an unauthorized copy of his work.

The lawsuit filed by Reece against Island Treasures Art Gallery, however, remains alive in U.S. District Court before Judge Michael Seabright.

Gallery owner Gail Allen and Marylee Leialoha Colucci, the artist who is not a party to the lawsuit, said the pose depicting a hula dancer in a sitting position is common in hula and was not a copy of the Reece photo.
