Journalist who reported on Pearl Harbor attack dies

SAVANNAH, Ga. — Frank Tremaine, a former United Press correspondent and executive who reported on the attack on Pearl Harbor, has died. He was 93.His Dec. 7 death came on the 65th anniversary of his Pearl Harbor report, for which he had phoned in an eyewitness account of the bombing.
Born in Detroit and raised in Pasadena, Calif., Tremaine began his United Press career as a correspondent at Stanford University, where he graduated in 1936.
His other posts for the agency included Tokyo, Honolulu, Mexico and Central America.
Tremaine moved in 1952 to UP headquarters in New York, where he held several executive positions, retiring as senior vice president of United Press International in 1980.
