WAILUKU, Maui — A 37-year-old man died today after being hit by two vehicles on Honoapi'ilani Highway north of Keanu Street in Wailuku, police said.

The Wailuku man, whose name has not been released, apparently ran onto the highway at about 4:30 a.m. and was struck by the driver's side mirror of a southbound 2001 Audi sedan, police said.

He remained on the road and was then run over by an unknown motorist who did not stop after the collision, police said.

The man was pronounced dead at 7:30 a.m. at Maui Memorial Medical Center. There have been 20 traffic fatalities in Maui County this year compared with 15 a year ago.
