Boomers spend more per person on restaurant meals than any other age group, according to the National Restaurant Association. And, according to the 2007 Zagat restaurant survey, boomers and other restaurant diners are spending even more now. Some results:

  • 83 percent of diners said they are eating out at least as often as they were two years ago.

  • 72 percent said their biggest complaint about a restaurant was poor service.

  • 67 percent said they are spending more per meal than last year.

    HEALTHY OR NOT

    BEWARE OF STEALTH SUGAR

Many foods with a "healthy" reputation are actually stealth sugar bombs, notes Mens Health magazine. Three examples? Yogurt with "fruit" on the bottom (it's loaded with corn syrup); baked beans (yep, glazed with sugar); and California roll (white rice and imitation crab? Men's Health calls it a "Japanese sugar cube").

    FINAL WORD

"It's really easy and safe for me to just sit up on stage and sing 'Beautiful.' But there are so many more sides to me than my voice."
