HAWAI'I BRIEFS
Teacher set to be arraigned today

Advertiser Staff

One Mililani Middle School teacher has pleaded not guilty to a petty misdemeanor charge of smoking marijuana and another is scheduled to be arraigned in Wahiawa District Court today on the charge.

Lisa Luhrsen pleaded not guilty earlier this month and is scheduled for trial March 8. Benjamin Ayson's arraignment was scheduled for today.

The two are accused of smoking marijuana Dec. 4 before school in Ayson's truck off campus before they arrived at work.

Ayson's lawyer, David Gierlach, has denied that his client was using marijuana and said the two teachers were sharing a Benson & Hedges cigarette.

The two were released after each posted $50 bail.

MOTORCYCLE CRASH VICTIM IDENTIFIED

A 22-year-old man who died after a Saturday night motorcycle accident has been identified by the City Medical Examiner's Office as Timothy Yomes of Honolulu.

Yomes was critically injured at about 10 p.m. Saturday when his motorcycle struck a curb and a guardrail on the H-1 west-bound lane near the Middle Street exit. He was wearing a helmet, police said.

He died Sunday at The Queen's Medical Center.

Police said speed may have been a factor.
