Maui police identify pedestrian killed yesterday

Advertiser Staff

WAILUKU, Maui — Police today identified a pedestrian killed yesterday in a hit-and-run collision on Honoapi'ilani Highway as Suk Su Ko, 37, of Wailuku.

Ko was walking home and ran onto the road at about 4:30 a.m. when he was struck by the driver's side mirror on a passing 2001 Audi sedan, said traffic investigator Lawrence Becraft of the Maui Police Department.

The impact knocked Ko to the ground and police believe that less than a minute passed before he was run over by a second vehicle that did not stop, Becraft said.

The accident occurred about 200 feet north of Keanu Street in Wailuku.

Police are asking for help in identifying the second auto, which may have damage to its front bumper.

Anyone with information should call the MPD Traffic Section at (808) 270-6537 or the police non-emergency number at (808) 244-6400.
