Mostly sunshine and light winds on tap

The National Weather Service is predicting mostly dry weather and the Islands head into the New Year and the fireworks festivities.

A weak cold front is expected to sweep across Kaua'i tonight and stall near Maui tomorrow, providing some rain and locally strong north winds.

Today's forecast calls for mostly sunny skies, isolated showers and highs between 73 degrees and 80 degrees, with light winds becoming northwest around 10 mph in the afternoon. The chance of rain is 30 percent.

Tonight will be partly cloudy with isolated showers in the evening, then mostly cloudy with showers likely after midnight. Lows between 59 and 67, and north winds between 10 mph and 15 mph, with a 60 percent chance of rain.

Tomorrow: Mostly cloudy with scattered showers in the morning. Mostly sunny, with isolated showers, in the afternoon. Breezy. Highs 71 to 77, with northeast winds between 15 mph and 25 mph, and a 50 percent chance of rain.

Tomorrow night will be partly cloudy with isolated showers. Lows, 61 to 69. East winds, 10 to 20 mph, and a 20 percent chance of rain.

Friday will be mostly cloudy with scattered showers. Highs, 71 to 79. And northeast winds, 10 to 15 mph.
