78-year-old pedestrian killed on Kaua`i

KAPA`A, Kaua'i — A 78-year-old Kapa`a woman was fatally injured this morning when she was hit by a truck while walking on the sidewalk on Kawaihau Road.

Police said Theresa Fujitani was pronounced dead at Wilcox Hospital.

At around 7 a.m., she was struck by a pickup truck operated by a 28-year-old man that veered off the road near Malakea Street.

After striking the pedestrian, the truck slammed into a utility pole. The driver and his 22-year-old passenger were taken to Wilcox Hospital for treatment.

Information on their conditions was not available.
