ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
True hue

Advertiser Staff and News Services

Tired of lipsticks that look one way in the tube but like a chameleon, change shade on the lips? Makeup guru Shu Uemura says the pigment technology in his new Rouge Unlimited lipsticks will end all that. The 48 moisturizing, sheer shades have a titanium dioxide core and organic shell, and offer unprecedented color fidelity. Particularly Island-friendly is one of the seven "artist shades," YL030. When layered with other hues, Uemura says it makes other colors more suitable for Asian skin tones. Rouge Unlimited sells at Neiman Marcus for $23.

HONOLULU NO. 2 BEST CITY IN U.S.

Once again, Honolulu gets props in Men's Health magazine's 10 Best Cities in America ranking. The January/February issue rates Honolulu No. 2, after San Jose, Calif., with a grade of A+. (Not like we need anyone to tell us.) Third best is Madison, Wis. The magazine crunched numbers in 24 categories, including life-and-death data on cancer, heart disease and stroke, and looked at lifestyle issues such as annual income, daily commute and crime rates. And of course the editors ran a sweat check, looking at men's exercise habits. Where don't you want to live? Memphis, Tenn. — it has the dubious honor of being the worst American city.
