UH basketball center Gueye won't play tonight

Advertiser Staff

The University of Hawai'i men's basketball team will play without starting center Ahmet Gueye tonight against Tennessee-Martin.

Gueye will sit out because of his injured right knee. The 6-foot-8 senior is averaging 11.8 points and a team-leading 7.6 rebounds per game. He started the first 12 games of this season, but the knee injury has been causing him problems recently.

Gueye did not practice on Wednesday, and also skipped the team's pregame workout today because of soreness in his knee. He underwent surgery on his right knee in March.

Riley Luettgerodt, a 6-foot-5 junior, is expected to make his first start of the season, although he will not necessarily fill Gueye's role.

P.J. Owsley, a 6-8 junior, will start at center; Bobby Nash, a 6-6 junior, will start at power forward; Luettgerodt will start at small forward; Matt Gibson and Matt Lojeski will start at guards.

Hawai'i is 8-4; Tennessee-Martin is 3-10. The game is scheduled to start at 7:05 p.m.
