Kimberly Kim, Kono share lead in Arizona tournament

Hawai'i's Kimberly Kim and Stephanie Kono each shot 1-under-par 71 Friday to share the lead after the second round of the Joanne Winter Arizona Silver Belle Championship at Karsten Golf Club in Tempe, Ariz.

Kim and Kono are at 2-under 142 in the 54-hole tournament for females between the ages of 13 and 23. Kim, 15, is a former Big Island resident who now lives in Arizona. Kono, a Punahou junior from Honolulu, is 17.

Kono and Kim hold a one-stroke lead over Shu Yin Liu (72) of Tualatin, Ore. Ellen Hoeper of Kansas City, Mo., is at 72-145.

Other Hawai'i golfers in the 112-player field are Christine Kim(73-149), Elyse Okada (76-150), Mari Chun (76-152), Kelly Nakashima (73-154) and Kristina Merkle (80-159).
