Deadline for tax return extended

State tax returns and payments that have a due date of Dec. 31, 2006, will have an extended deadline because post offices will be closed on Tuesday with the observance of a national day of mourning for former President Gerald Ford.

The state Department of Taxation said the new due date is Jan. 3.


MORE FLIGHTS FROM AUSTRALIA

Jetstar, the discount carrier of Qantas Group, yesterday launched twice-weekly service between Melbourne, Australia, and Honolulu.

The carrier earlier this week began flights to Hawai'i from Australia with service between Sydney and Honolulu.


ISLES INCLUDED IN FARE PROMOTION

American Airlines is including Hawai'i in a New Year's fare promotion that includes discounts on travel within the continental U.S. and Hawai'i as well as tickets to some international destinations.

Some sample roundtrip fares include: Honolulu-Los Angeles, $333; Honolulu-Newark, $498; and Honolulu-Chicago, $546. The fares must be purchased by Jan. 9, 2007, for flights between Jan. 9 and March 7.


APPLE CLEARS CEO ON OPTIONS
